Colombia - Betulia Estate

Hacienda Betulia stands as a testament to the dedication and vision of its founders, cousins Juan Pablo and Christian Vélez. Nestled in the north-western province of Antioquia, near the charming town of Maceo, this estate is the culmination of the artistry and passion behind Colombia's finest cacao cultivation. The beautiful landscape is located to the east of the provincial capital Medellin.

Founded on the principles of organic farming and sustainability, Hacienda Betulia cultivates Cacao Criollo, renowned for its rare and complex flavours. Unlike other cacao varieties, these beans have a remarkable absence of bitterness, offering a pure, single variety cacao experience with a delightful aroma and exquisite taste.

One of the hallmarks of Hacienda Betulia's commitment to excellence is its Best Agricultural Practices (BAP) certification, making it the first cacao plantation in Antioquia to achieve this prestigious recognition. In 2018, the farm was honoured as the most innovative cacao farm in Colombia, a testament to its continuous pursuit of perfection and innovation in cacao cultivation.

At Chocolat Philippe, we are thrilled to have secured a small lot of these exceptional beans from Hacienda Betulia. These beans have won prizes of excellence at several chocolate competitions. The result is an extraordinary chocolate with a nuanced flavour profile. From fruity notes to nutty undertones and a creamy finish, each bite is a symphony of flavours.
