The Mountains of the Moon

Nestled at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, lies the birthplace of our exceptional Uganda Mountains of the Moon cacao beans. Ancient Greek lore once called these snow-capped peaks as the origin of the Nile, where today, smallholder farmers cultivate cocoa trees alongside vanilla and coffee plants. The rich, fertile soil and the shade of indigenous trees provide an ideal environment for nurturing these exquisite cacao beans.

The Cacao Beans

Harvested by dedicated farmers, the ripe cacao pods are brought to a local fermentation centre in the village. Here, the cacao beans are first fermented and then air dried. The location and expertise of the farmers give this cacao its specific flavours.

Community Empowerment

The story of Mountains of the Moon goes beyond the fields; it's about community empowerment. Collaborating with local farmers, the cooperative unlocks access to certifications, invaluable training, fairer prices, and newer markets. On top of creating exceptional chocolate, it's a commitment to uplifting lives and preserving traditions.
