Gola Forest
Introduction to Sierra Leone - Gola Forest
Some cacao tells a deeper story — and the beans from Sierra Leone’s Gola Forest do exactly that. Grown by the Ngoleagorbu farmers, the country’s first farmer-led cacao organisation, this cacao is more than just delicious. It’s part of a bold, community-driven effort to protect one of West Africa’s last remaining rainforests.
These smallholder farmers live and work along the edge of the Gola Rainforest National Park, home to pygmy hippos, chimpanzees, and a stunning array of biodiversity. With support from the Gola Rainforest Conservation, they’ve committed to forest-friendly farming — no harmful chemicals, no deforestation — just careful cultivation under the shade of towering trees.
The result? A cacao that’s as generous in flavour as it is in spirit. Gola beans offer gentle acidity, earthiness, and a deep cocoa body, shaped by the land and the hands that tend it.
When you taste this bar, you’re not only savouring single-origin excellence — you’re part of a global movement for climate action, biodiversity, and rural empowerment.
